Since Trader Joe's Kung Pao Chicken was better than a lot of other frozen Kung Pao chickens I've had, my boyfriend and I decided to try some of Trader Joe's Szechuan Style Spicy Beef & Broccoli. Unfortunately, we didn't read the instructions fully before buying it and assumed it was microwavable, like their Kung Pao chicken. However, the beef & broccoli ended up being mostly cooked on the stovetop. The only part that was microwavable was the bag of broccoli.

The spicy beef & broccoli came in three separate packets: beef, broccoli, and sauce. The bag of broccoli also came stuck to the outer bag.

We cooked it all following the instructions on the back of the bag, except we only used half of the sauce. It took us a total of about 15-20 minutes to make.

The beef wasn't great. A few of the beef bits were grisly, and beef wasn't very crispy because of the sauce. Although the beef bits had a slightly crispy exterior, the inside of the beef was very mushy, which I didn't like at all. The sauce was sweet and a little tangy, but I didn't care for it. I'm glad we only used half the sauce or it would have been too sweet. The only part I did like about the beef was its spiciness. The broccoli was also OK, but it didn't really add anything to the beef.

Refrigerating the beef didn't do the beef any favors, either. We had it as leftovers the next day; it tasted worse. The beef was even mushier, and I couldn't eat the three pieces I put on my plate.

Box of Trader Joe's Frozen Wild Salmon in Yogurt & Mint Sauce
Trader Joe's Frozen Wild Salmon in Yogurt & Mint Sauce cooked

A frozen box of this Wild Salmon in Yogurt & Mint Sauce with Orzo pasta, Spinach, and Zucchini from Trader Joe's had been sitting in the freezer for a few months, and no one had eaten it yet, so I decided to finally try it for a quick lunch.

The microwave instructions on the box state to peel back a corner of the tray, microwave it for 6-7 minutes, and let it stand for two minutes. Since it had been in the freezer for a while, I microwaved it for 7 minutes.

I'm not a fan of yogurt, so salmon in a yogurt and mint sauce didn't sound great. Fortunately for me, it didn't have a strong yogurt taste. Unfortunately for me, it didn't have much taste at all.

Well, the salmon did taste like salmon, but it was very dry. Eating the salmon combined with the Orzo pasta and yogurt / mint sauce helped a little, but it wasn't enough. The sauce didn't really taste like anything, and it was all just very bland. The salmon tray also came with two cherry tomato halves, and when I tried one, I had to spit it out because it was too sweet. I could only finish about half of the salmon and pasta tray before I threw it all away.

Box of Lemongrass Chicken Stix from Trader Joe's
Lemongrass Chicken Stix from Trader Joe's cooked

I've seen the frozen Thai Lemongrass Chicken Stix at Trader Joe's for a while, but I've never had it, so I finally decided to give a box a try. I cooked the whole box of 10 in a toaster oven following the oven instructions. I baked them on top of foil instead of a baking sheet.

The chicken stick wrappers were crunchy like spring rolls, and the texture on the filling inside was good; it wasn't mushy. I liked the slightly sweet lemongrass flavor of the "lemongrass-flavored" chicken. Unfortunately, that wasn't the strongest taste. The taste of the chicken was a little lemony and VERY peppery. The first "chicken stick" I had was OK, but as I continued eating, the pepper taste became way too overwhelming, and I couldn't eat any more.
