Box of Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie
Cooked Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie

Last weekend was rainy, and a warm chicken pot pie sounded good, so my boyfriend and I bought a box of Marie Callendar's chicken pot pies to try from Costco.

We followed the microwave instructions: we opened the carton, keeping the silver lining on top and microwaved it for six minutes on high, letting it stand for five minutes. The instructions state to also measure the internal temperature afterward to make sure it's at least 165 degrees (F). We made two pies, and both came out at 170 degrees.

The chicken broth filling inside was very salty and almost soupy. The inside of the pie didn't have too much in it, so I did a count of what we found.

In one pot pie, I counted the following:

  • 18 peas
  • 5 pieces of carrot
  • 10 chicken cubes
  • 2 celery bits
  • The peas inside were crisp, and the chicken was nice and chunky. However, the carrots and celery were mushy, and the pastry is very dense / not very flaky.

It started out tasting OK, but I couldn't finish the whole thing because it got too salty. I also had to eat a banana afterward to make myself feel better.

REVIEW – Marie Callender’s Chicken Pot Pie (Frozen)

The chicken pot pies use to be delicious but now they taste awful. I really regret buying the multi pack at Sam’s Club. A total waste of money!

WOW… these pot pies went from being the best in the market to the worst. I just bought a chicken pot pie after a few years and omg… It was a tastless filling with a cardboard crust. I’m SO disappointed. Marie Calendar just tried to be too many things to too many people and have failed all around… These pies SUCK

Having enjoyed the chicken pot pies for many years, I purchased an 8 pack, stored 7 in my freezer and prepared one for lunch, following the instructions on package. I proceeded to have my lunch. What I found was a dry batch of crust and not much of anything else, hardly any ingredients as filler and dry as a bone. This is the first time this year I’ve purchased and most likely the last ever. What a shame they used to be so good

I agree… They went from the best to the worst.. I can’t stand their pot pies now

The chicken pot pies used to be of predictable high quality. But the bottom has fallen out of the standards at Marie Calendar’s. Now I run into pieces of meat which are inedible instead of the lean white meat they used to use, but the worst part is that I bit down on something very hard! Grissle is not like that so I spit it out to identify it. It looked like a child’s tooth! The tooth ferry will be upset! It might not have been a tooth since with pressure you could bend it slightly but it was very hard, white, and tooth shaped. What kind of chickens are they raising nowadays? The point is—if they don’t go back to tip top quality, no one will buy these anymore! It is very distasteful to have to examine each bite with a fine tooth comb before eating!

I spoke to customer support the other day.
Sorry to say what a poor quality, disappointment.
All the above comments are true.

Quality is poor. We have always enjoyed these in the past. Now doughy and almost devoid of filling.

Very disappointed in content and quality of double size chicken pot pie. Few pieces of cubed chicken, about 3 tiny cubes of carrots, and more peas that were old and tasteless. Gravy very liquidy
and salty. Yuk! Not enough for one person, much less the advertised two seevings..

Wish the salt content could be cut.
That and a thinner pastry. Overall better than making it myself with all that’s involved.

Just ate my first chicken pot pie from Marie Callender’s. I was disappointed with the amount of chicken, there was only 3 pieces cubed which was very small. Has an excellent taste but disappointed in the amount of chicken. Carrots and peas were ok if there was celery and onion I couldn’t tell.

I’ve tried the chicken and the beef.
On nights I’m so tired I just can’t cook.
In the OLD day this product had more than 5 tiny carrots and the tiny celery pieces they are hard to identify. The meat is like the stuff I cut off a steak that is not eatable.
      Almost all crust.
      It’s so much it’s gross.
I’ve been cooking for my family and have been an in home chef for years. This isn’t worthy of giving to my pets.
      Really what happened to quality.
Did you sell out to ????
I hate to say it so I wont .
What you are selling is pathetic.

Just ate one of your small chicken pot pies. There was not one piece of chicken in the pot pie. Lots of peas and carrots but no CHICKEN. You might change the name to veggie pot pie. Very disappointed.

I just had a 10 oz chicken pot pie. There was mostly crust, 2 slices of carrots, 15 peas, 1 piece of celery & 5 small chunks of chicken! What has happened to the pot pies that were like the ones we see in your commercials on TV?
