Bag of La Boulangère Hazelnut Chocolate Filled Crêpes from Costco
La Boulangère Hazelnut Chocolate Filled Crêpe from Costco

It isn't often when we see crepes at Costco -- I haven't seen their Belgian Boys or La Creperie crepes in a long time now -- so when I saw these on-the-go chocolate filled crepes at Costco this past week (in the nuts/peanut butter aisle), I decided to try them out.

The bag came with 15 individually wrapped crepes, and the first thing I noticed when I tried one was that the crepe/"pancake" part was a little dry. However, the added hazelnut chocolate filling made that dryness OK. A random thing I noticed was that on each package, it reads "This Product has been frozen... never refreeze after thawig". (yes, thawig... or maybe "thawi9")

Anyway, the filling was on the sweet side and tasted similar to Nutella. I liked the sweet chocolate filling - it went well with the crepe. One crepe wasn't very filling, but it still makes a good, quick snack or dessert that you don't have to warm up or prepare yourself.

Box of Belgian Boys Crepes from Costco
Belgian Boys Crepes from Costco

Last time I went to Costco I saw that Costco had these new Belgian Boys crepes so I bought some to try. Both the box and the crepes look very similar to the La Creperie crepes Costco has had in the past. The crepes come in a box of 16 crepes, which is divided into two packages of 8 crepes.

When I first tried one of the Belgian Boys crepes, I wasn't sure how long to microwave it. The instructions state to take "product" out of its packaging and microwave it on a plate for 1 minute. I didn't know if that meant 8 crepes or 1 or 2 crepes. So I microwaved my one crepe for 15 seconds, and it was dry and very underdone. Then I microwaved it for 30 more seconds, and the texture was much better. So, 40-45 seconds seemed to work for one crepe in my microwave. The next time I had the crepes they were frozen so I had to microwave one crepe for about 65 seconds.

Just like the La Creperie crepes, the Belgian Boy crepes have a nice, slightly sweet crepe taste. The one thing I didn't like was that the crepes have a somewhat chewy texture. Adding something on top of the crepe might counteract the chewiness, but I prefer my crepes plain.

Overall, the Belgian Boys crepes were fine for me, except for their chewy texture. I am also happy that I can find crepes at Costco again to satisfy my crepe cravings :) .

Update (2015): Unfortunately, my local Costco in AZ seems to have stopped carrying crepes yet again... :(

La Creperie Crepes from Costco

I tried some of these La Creperie Crepes that I saw at Costco.

I warmed a crepe up in the microwave for about 1 minute (after 40 seconds it was still a little cold). I ate the crepe plain, as I don't really like putting anything on crepes when I eat them. It was maybe a little thicker than the typical crepe, but it tasted like a crepe with its slightly sweet taste, and it satisfied my crepe craving at the time.

Update (April 2014): I haven't been able to find these crepes at the Costco near me for a long while -- but Costco now sometimes has "Belgian Boys All Natural Crepes".
