Kirkland Signature Lobster Bisque from Costco
Bowl of Kirkland Signature Lobster Bisque

My life got busy, and I haven't posted in a while, but I'm hoping to start up posting again. So this is a late review - I got this lobster bisque with my dad when it was on sale a couple months ago.

My dad ended up freezing the lobster bisque first because he didn't think we'd eat it fast enough, so this was warmed on the stove top from frozen when I had it. The preparation was pretty standard for a pre-made soup - just heat it up on the stove top until it's hot, stirring occasionally, or you can microwave it in a microwave-safe bowl, as well.

The consistency of the soup was good - not watery or super thick. I really liked the savory seafood taste. It wasn't overwhelming, but it did taste quite good. The lobster pieces were pretty small, and some pieces seemed a little dry. It also wasn't super filling, and I kept going back to get more. I haven't had much lobster bisque before, so I don't have much to compare it to, but it did taste really good overall.

REVIEW – Kirkland Signature Lobster Bisque from Costco

  • jim rose

This is just about the worst soup I’ve ever tried to eat. Nasty, fishy taste and not even remotely close to a lobster bisque. I wouldn’t feed this shit to a dog.

    • Sam

Couldn’t agree more, sadly. Not anything resembling a smidgen of lobster. Last time I buy this crap. Want lobster bisque? Make it yourself or go to Maine.

  • Ed G

I tried this and was very surprised to see others experiencing the bitter aftertaste of the bisque, thinking I had just come across a bad batch. I looked at the ingredients and don’t see anything that should be leaving that kind of flavor… It already is a fishy dairy product which can be rough on the stomach, but combining that with the lingering bitterness made this pretty unenjoyable to eat.

Nevermind the size of the lobster chunks – I do not recommend based on flavor!

  • Amir G

The taste is great, hands down very comparable to the bisque offered at high end restaurants (Ruth Chris etc).

However, you WILL have severe diarrhea the next day. Unfortunately it is bad enough that we won’t be buying this again

    • Jo Gregg

Re: “severe diarrhea the next day”…Me too!! Dreadful and miserable experience. Never again. I honestly can’t remember ever being that sick before.

  • linda defauw

kirkland lobster bisque== was a waste of time/money -nothing in it except for calories!! I added chicken to it-tasted ok-

  • Michelle R

I ate the Kirkland Lobster Bisque hours ago and still can’t get rid of the bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Will not buy this again.

    • MPVAUGHT

The Worst bitter after taste ever!! Immediately, after eating a half a cup of the lobster bisque my stomach started bubbling and making weird noises. I threw away all of it (both containers). My taste buds are still struggling to get rid of the bitter after taste.

I’ve been buying this lobster bisque off and on for the past couple years. I have never once experienced any stomach problems that multiple people on here mention. It tastes delicious, comparable to what I have gotten at upper-mid tier seafood restaurants even. For the price, expecting to find a lot of lobster meat in it is unreasonable at best, though on occasion I have found a quite large chunk in there which is a nice surprise. As far as the healthiness of it with the saturated fat content…well, a bisque is generally not exactly health food, so yes, that is to be expected.

For a pre-made, store bought lobster bisque, this is one of the best that I have found so far. Definitely a far sight better (and much better priced) than the more popular Panera Bread version.

    • AJS

      I wholeheartedly(and belly full) concur !!!

  • Anastasio

At first glance, Costco’s  Kirkland Signature Lobster Bisque seems pretty darn appealing. It looks rich, creamy, and satisfying, and the package promises the soup has “restaurant-quality” with a “sophisticated taste” (via

To be fair, there were a couple positive reviews for the bisque and one commenter said it tasted better once they added ingredients like garlic, black pepper, and crabmeat; but that just seems like a lot of extra money and effort for a bisque that’s not all that good for us — and maybe not even that appetizing — in the first place. Thanks, but no thanks! We’ll pass on the Kirkland Signature Lobster Bisque for now, and perhaps you should too.

I was going to phone Costco to report the Lobster Bisque was tainted as I had terrible cramps and then diarrhea after eating some. Now that I’ve read so many comments, I assume that the stuff is not fit for human consumption.

  • Pat K

I have served the Costco lobster bisque the last 3 years as a Christmas starter for my adult and teenage children. I usually get a package of Maine lobster piece on line and add that to the soup – everyone asks are you having that again this year
    We LOVE IT.

    • Kathy Howard

I concur I sauté extra butter, garlic & crabmeat then add the lobster bisque …everyone thinks I make it from scratch! Delicious????

  • Ron Morgenegg

Bought the lobster bisque last year, it was very good and you found pieces of lobster in the soup. Just bought more today, it was more watery and only microscopic pieces of lobster, looks like the lobster only ran through the bisque and didn’t stop. If this is the way it is now being made I will not buy anymore

  • Joe

I believe you are seeing mixed reviews here because many people who buy this product have never tried lobster bisque before, and they simply don’t care for the taste. If you like lobster bisque, the Kirkland bisque is pretty consistent with what you would expect. I’ve ordered lobster bisque in high end restaurants before and it taste almost exactly like the Kirkland product. As an appetizer it could easily sell for $16.00 for a small cup with a single small lobster claw in it. So if you are buying two tubs for $9.99 it’s not realistic to expect big lobster chunks in it.

This is not exactly health food, so don’t be surprised at the level of saturated fat. The main ingredient in it is cream. I find it you mix in some brown rice it makes the bisque much heartier and gives it a little more nutritious profile while making it pretty filling for a light lunch.

I just really love this lobster bisque. I read all the negative reviews and I disagree. Yes the lobster pieces are almost invisible but the soup is really good my husband and I both had the flu this year and went back to get more even if we were sick it was something that we needed because you can make it very hot and it feels so good going down! we both have lobster bisque at our favorite seafood restaurant which is known for it’s bisque. sometimes I think Kirkland is better even though of course the restaurant has much more lobster in it. We don’t understand the comments about a bad taste in your mouth but I guess you’re not used to drinking alcohol because the Sherry is the thing that puts that certain tang to it. The consistency is definitely not watery so I have no idea what or white people say that. How to not carry this in the summer time so get it while you can in the winter and if you have a freezer, stock up! You can’t beat it for the price and it is very very yummy. I’d like the people to make their own if they don’t think this is good enough. See what you think about your own lobster bisque and it’s not that hard to make.

  • Barbara

The lobster bisque taste very good as it hit my taste buds. The aftertaste was disappointing. Good price but can’t stomach the bitter ending.

  • Todd S

Tasty, but watery. Slivers of lobster. Barely noticeable. Nutritional content is HORRIBLE. 1 cup has 95% of your daily allowance of saturated fat and 30 grams or 38% of your daily allowance of total fat. Way too rich for me. In one end and within a few hours out the other. OMG did it do a number on my stomach! Severe diarrhea. NOT recommended. Thumbs-down.

  • Mary C

Need to be clear on my earlier post. I Intended to say bits of alleged lobster couldn’t possibly bring on that strong fishy taste – the broth was watery, super sweet and I’m not down on sweet – can’t believe COSTCO has been selling this for any significant period of time. It casts a negative shadow on COSTCO. I seriously feel nauseated even. Also I shy away from commenting. Jus in disbelief

  • Susan Lundblade

I learned a good lesson. Read reviews before buying any product that I have not tried before. I agree with all of the negative reviews about Kirkland Lobster Bisque. I DID expect tiny pieces of lobster due to the price. The sherry wine flavor was strong and there was a fishy taste to the soup.

  • Kurt

The batch I got the other day (twin pack) was really good. Rich, but not too thick and I liked the flavor. LB is not something I would want frequently, but if I feel like it, I would get this again.

  • Judy

Last fall I had surgery and half my tongue was removed so eating has become difficult and a necessity rather than a pleasure. Costco’s lobster bisque has turned eating back into a pleasure. The little lobster pieces are easy to swallow and consistency of the soup is perfect. It is flavorful and I have it for lunch 3 or more times/week. Publix carries Panera lobster bisque but I didn’t like their flavor at all. I alternate Costco’s lobster bisque with Costco’s broccoli cheese soup, which is also a perfect consistency. The broccoli is tender and easy for me to eat and the cheese base isn’t so thick I choke.

  • Tina Remy

My boyfriend and I were at Costco about 3 weeks ago they had lobster bisque the twin containers on sale for $6.99 we bought a twin pack this lobster bisque is the best not too thick not too thin Lobster pieces were small and that’s fine one of the best lobster bisque I have had I will buy it again it is full of flavor I was very very satisfied

  • Steven Clark

I ate the soup. It left a very bad favour on my tongue. I could not get rid of that flavour for 5 days. Checked the ingredients: Chicken broth, chicken fat. No wonder my tongue felt like it was violently assaulted. Now nothing I eat tastes right.

  • Gina marie Glomski

Best soup compares to red lobster and better value. On sale so better. I really tasted lobster. I plan on going back and buying alot and freeze some…yum yum

  • Moneen Ahlquist

Horrible soup. Adding ingredients or spices does not help.

    • Moneen Ahlquist

Also want to add…where we’re the chunks of lobster?

  • Beah

I agree that this soup is mediocre at best. I had to add garlic salt and black pepper. I also added crab meat. Much better now but what’s up with that after taste, it’s bitter.

  • Judy

Worst soup ever! How is it they can even sell this crap. Very watery and zero taste. Felt horrible afterwards. Blech ????

    • Bob Whitmore

Thank you all. I bought the twin pack and ate one. I am returning for full credit the last container. I just do not want to eat it. For the price, at least it should have actual Lobster in it. As others say, too watery. Very poor for the price.

      • Jack Spratt

Disregard the negative reviews, those people do not understand what lobster bisque is or should be, Costco’s is excellent and at an amazing price, especially when on sale for $6.99. I don’t return food I ate expecting full credit…now that’s what I would consider poor taste.

        • Jennifer

I agree. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and had it today for the first time. It is very good – and an excellent deal.

  • jamie langford

Purchased at costco last week and had severe diarrhea, thought it was the gratefruit i ate… reheated some today and again I feel like its coming back. not sure if this is good??????

    • Eric Sherwood

My stomach is absolutely killing me after eating this for lunch today. I have used the restroom as well, I will never eat it again.

      • Taylor Rose

I also had severe diarrhea after eating this soup! And it had very little lobster in it. I think mine had like 3 tiny tiny pieces. Will never buy again!

  • Peggy

I fell in love with Captain D’s lobster bisque back in February. I spotted this at Costco about a month or so later. I didn’t like it at all. They add sherry or wine to it which was about all I could taste. And the meat was in very small pieces compared to Captain D’s.

  • Meredith

It was okay but that’s about all. Too bland, not much flavor. Not much lobster and what was there was overcooked (like canned). Won’t buy it again.

  • G Cusella

Wish I had seen the reviews before purchasing the product. It is horrible. My wife and I talked about what to do with the second container. Considered adding a little to the dogs food untill it was gone, but finally decided to freeze it and serve it to relatives we are angry with when they come to dinner next Thanksgiving. Since they are not cosco members they will probably never see this post.

  • Georgi Abbott

This is the worst soup, let alone lobster bisque, my husband and I have ever eaten. It merely had an overall fishy taste will only a slight hint of lobster. The texture of the lobster meat was the same as what you would find in a can. It was extremely bland and very watery. No depth to this product at all. I have to wonder what some people eat at home for them to think this soup is anywhere near good. We planned a dinner around this slop and were so disappointed. We were going to make our own from scratch but just happened to notice this at Costco that day and figured, how bad could it be? Well, it’s bad. Now I know not to try any of the other soups.

    • Nancy

I just bought Lobster Bisque yesterday from Cosco
Not very good to thin and not much flavour
      Any 1 else.

      • Moneen Ahlquist

        You bet…I agree

  • Sally Gengo

I have purchased several times Lobster Bisque from Costco and think it is really good. I have even purchased some small lobster tails, cooked them and added to the soup, yum yum. You sure can’t please everyone from some of the reviews, I say try it yourself. There are some people you can never please. I take some reviews with a grain of salt.

    • Moneen Ahlquist

You can add all you want as we have and it is still horrible soup.

  • R. Williams

Thank you for your reviews – I’ve read a bunch of them and appreciate you taking the time to write them. I’ve tried various Asian foods from Costco which is what brought me to your reviews to begin with. Thanks again!

    • Becca Graham

They used to carry Legal Seafood lobster bisque chowder and those were really good. I used to buy them a lot. I should suggest they bring those soup back! Haven’t tried the Kirkland brand though and with the bad reviews I don’t think I would.

      • Mary C

I am more than disappointed in the Kirkland Lobster Bisque. I will keep the revenants in the fridge until trash pickup day. I tried to eat about a 1/2 cup serving. It is beyond horrible. The broth and s watery and seems to be flavored with stale fish remnants since the invisible alleged bits of left barer couldn’t possibly give it the strong offensive flavor that it has. It’s overly sweet and my tummy is grumbling and bubbling and the liquid hasn’t even cooled yet. I couldn’t believe dates I saw in terms of how long this has been on the market. I will never even go near the display. Casts a real negative shadow on COSTCO.
